Student Leadership Opportunities
The development of leadership skills within our students is one of the primary goals of the Centennial HS Choral Department. In cooperation with the choral staff, our student leaders play an important role in the success of the our ensembles. We take these positions very seriously and therefore want only the best students in positions of leadership. Students in these roles are expected to serve as examples for all of our students through not only their words and actions, but also their rehearsal etiquette, general attitude, and overall involvement in the program. Chief among their responsibilities is the regular demonstration and support of the core values of our department:
Elected Leadership Positions:
The following positions are open to students and filled via student election for the 2017-2018 school year. These position include the office of President, Vice-President & Three (3) Members at Large.
Musical Leadership Positions
Students elected to these positions may hold another office position above and are chosen via audition with the director and through student input.
Paper applications should be completed and turned in to Mr. Cooley no later than 8:30am on Tuesday, May 9th. In addition, all elected positions should complete a video that will be shown to all choir students as described below.
To Apply for a Leadership Position:
Please create a short “campaign” video to be shown to choir classes prior to "election day." This video should be no longer than 2-minutes and outline why you believe you would be the ideal candidate for this position. If you are running for an office in each area, you should include your reasons for desiring these positions in the same video. Applicants seeking the office of President/Vice-President will automatically be considered for a "Member at Large" position on the Council unless you specifically do not wish to be considered for this position (mark this on your application).
Regular, monthly meetings are required of these individuals to ensure that all members are aware of program initiatives and student objectives.
Members of the Choir Council (all elected/appointed student leaders) do a great deal of behind the scenes work to assist in activities of the choral program. As student leaders, council members are expected to serve as an example of professionalism and integrity to all students in the CHS Choral Department. A student may be removed from office by the director at any time should their work ethic or demonstrated behavior fail to meet the standards for leadership in the department.
All Videos and Paper Applications must be turned in to Mr. Cooley no later than 8:30am on Tuesday, May 9th. Voting will be on Wednesday, May 17th.
