General information & Audition Expectations

Documentation
Complete audition packets are required in order to audition. Students without complete audition packets will not be permitted to audition.

Please review this packet in its entirety. Carefully consider your availability and ability to commit to a rigorous rehearsal process. The success of this production is dependent upon the dedication of each individual to the fulfillment their role in this production, both on and off stage.
Audition Material
All students will prepare a musical selection from a musical of their choice. Audition material MUST BE ACCOMPANIED and MEMORIZED. Audition 
  1. When selecting an audition piece, students should make every effort to select the most appropriate song for their voice type.
  2. ​Backing tracks should be trimmed or cued to the portion of the song that will be sung by the performer and should include a minimum of 45 seconds of singing.
  3. Backing tracks should not contain lead vocals or someone singing the melody.
  4. ​​Performance length should not exceed one minute in length.
  5. While auditions are not required to be staged or choreographed; it is highly recommended that those auditioning make attempts to help convey the message present  within the piece selected for audition.

Dramatic Sides for Audition (Pick One)
Dramatic Sides should be memorized for the purposes of this audition. Please read the brief summary of the character and incorporate their background into your performance.

Vocal Assessment 
  • This assessment will include short vocalization exercises to determine vocal range and the singer’s best tessitura. Auditionees will be asked to complete several pitch matching patterns, as well.​
A materials fee will be required of all students cast in this production. Material fees are due no later than 12/2/22. This fee is outlined in your contract and includes costume fees, a production shirt, and meals provided by the booster club during tech week rehearsals.

Academic Eligibility 
Students cast in this year’s production are expected to maintain the highest levels of academic excellence. Acceptance of any role in this production is contingent upon the understanding that any student found academically ineligible on the 3rd six weeks progress report may be removed from the company and have their role reassigned. 


Attendance Policy
Students are given ample notice of scheduled events so that conflicts are minimal. As students continue their quest to be responsible adults and perfect the art of balancing and organizing activities and calendars, it is their responsibility to inform parents, employers, coaches, and sponsors for their responsibilities as they relate to their involvement in the CHS Fine Arts Department Musical. Routine doctor appointments, babysitting, church activities, and/or a student’s job schedule will not serve as excused absences from activities related to this production. Students with more than TWO unexcused from rehearsals, performances, related activities may be dismissed from the cast.

​Call Back Auditions
During this process students may be asked to prepare the following elements for further evaluation:
  • Perform musical selection as assigned
  • Perform any additional dramatic readings as requested
