Choir Announcements & Program Updates
Good Evening Choir Parents and Students,
What a fantastic week of music making in each of our choirs! It is truly exciting to see and hear the growth in confidence and musicianship that has taken place since the beginning of the school year. This winter concert is going to be a wonderful testament to the hard work and dedication of the students in each of our musical ensembles.
Congratulations to the CHS and KMS women on a fantastic performance this past Friday night. The combined choir’s performance of the National Anthem was truly outstanding. The professionalism and focus with which the choir sang is to be commended. Thank you, also, to the parent volunteers and booster club officers who worked behind the scenes to support our students and this event.
Our 3rd annual poinsettia sale was a huge success! Not only did we meet our sales goal for the year, we exceeded it by over 70 poinsettias; that’s over 250 poinsettias.Way to go, Choir! Because of your efforts, we will not only be able to beautifully decorate our concert stage, but also assist many of our students lower the cost of their trip fees and/or other expenses for the school year. Poinsettias will be available for pick up immediately following the Winter Concert on December 10th.
Thank you to each of the parents and students who volunteered to work the concessions stands at the Texas Motor Speedway this weekend. Your time and efforts to support this program and our students is greatly appreciated. Special thanks to our booster club vice-president, Ms. Candace Pettigrew, for serving as the coordinator and point of contact for this event. We look forward to hearing about this weekend’s fundraising efforts in the coming days.
Over 22 students from Centennial High School will participate in the Region VII District and Region Honor Choir Clinic and Concert this Saturday, November 14th at Weatherford High School, in Weatherford, TX. Selected from the first two rounds of All-State Choir auditions, our students will work with master teachers and clinicians throughout the day to prepare music, both new and auditioned, for performance later that evening. This concert will feature major works of Mozart, Holst, Robert Shaw and variety of music from the All-State repertoire. The evening will close with a mass choir performance of Handel’s "Zadok the Priest,” sung by a choir of over 280 singers. This performance will be one that you most certainly don’t want to miss. All students attending this event will receive a letter in class tomorrow detailing time for departure and return, in addition to information regarding uniform, music, and money for the day.
Trip Payment #3 is due this Thursday. Whether paid with fundraiser money, check, or cash, all student accounts should have a minimum of $300 credited toward their total owed. Charms has been set up to accept PayPal payments for student trips and fees. Log in to your student account and visit “Finances” to make electronic payments against any invoices on your student account. Students wishing to transfer funds from fundraisers to trip should email these requests to Mrs. Hoagland or Cumiskey at firstname.lastname@example.org. Students with outstanding fees will be asked to address these payments prior to transferring any funds against trip balances owed.
Finally, a message for our dads, fathers, and male guardians/role models… We would like to invite each of you to participate in our first annual “Father-Son Chorus.” I have titled it as such because we intend for this to become an annual tradition for the men of the CHS Choral Department. Through this effort, we hope to foster an deeper appreciation for music making among our stakeholders and through song, support the creation of meaningful bonds between our students, their parents, and our surrounding community.
In support of this event, all male choir students at Centennial High School are being asked to invite their fathers or other male role models to join us in performing Harry Simone’s arrangement of “Do You Hear What I Hear?” for men’s chorus. Participation is open to any male who has played an important role in their life, regardless of previous experience or perceived singing ability. All that is required, is an open mind and a willingness to explore a part of your student’s interests at their side.
Students will spend time with their fathers and/or other family members, preparing the music for performance on our concert. To assist them (and you) in their preparation for this event, each student has be provided with a copy of the music and a practice CD on which rehearsal tracks for their partner’s voice part has been recorded. Each student will be responsible for sharing rehearsal materials with their adult partner and helping them learn their part of this performance. Our one and only rehearsal for this event will be held in the Centennial High School Choir Room on Sunday, December 6th, from 2-3:30pm. Our concert is on Thursday, December 10th at 7:00PM.
Special Note: The opportunity to sing is not limited to dads, family members of male choir students. If there are any fathers or guardians of our female choir members that would like to join us for this event, please let me know and we will be sure to include you in our emails and get practice materials to you ASAP. We would love to have you.
