Greetings CHS Choir Students and Family Members
I hope you are out and about enjoying the remaining hours of the weekend and all of this wonderful weather! It is hard to believe that it is technically still “Winter.” Below are some important updates regarding upcoming rehearsals, activities and events for the CHS Choral Department
Trip Cost and Final Payment Information Update:
While many of you may have received my email on Friday regarding this information, I want to make sure no one is missed. The final pay-off amount for students participating in this year’s trip to New Orleans is $560.00. While the reduction is small, we have been able to include over $45 worth of meals while still reducing the overall cost of the trip. Final payments for this year’s trip are due on Thursday, February 18th. Those wishing to complete payments via transfer of fundraising points should email Anne Hoagland (CCBC treasurer via email@example.com).
Varsity Men’s and Women’s Sectional Begin This Week (Concert & Chorale Men, Chorale Women Only):
Over the past two year's our Varsity Men's and Women's Choirs of CHS have proven to be formidable performers both on the stage and in the contest sight-reading rooms; each bringing home "superior" performance accolades at both UIL and the DBU Festival Di Voce. Most recently, our Varsity Men were recognized as "Best in Class" and our Varsity Women as one of the Top Five performing ensembles at the same festival of over 30 choral ensembles.
This year's choirs are poised to experience equally impressive growth and musical performances from these groups this year, as well. Through this process each student will be actively engaged in meaningful study of advanced choral literature that will expand their musical literacy and foster their development into more confident and expressive communicators through song. We will not only journey together to refine musical literature for public performance and assessment, but also, work to build within our department and choirs a greater sense of community, comradery, and mutual respect for the gifts and work of those around us.
Please contact the choir office with any questions you may have regarding your students involvement in this process.
Varsity Men will meet TOMORROW from 4:45PM - 6:15PM in the CHS Choir Room
Varsity Women will meet on TUESDAY from 4:45 - 6:15 in the CHS Choir Room
Final Student Fundraising Opportunity (Butter Braids):
Our booster club has been hard at work to organize a worth while opportunity for each of our students to be able to off-set costs of trips, activities and fees this year. Points earned by students during this sale may be used to complete payment of fees, off-set trip costs, or cover the cost of their year end banquet tickets. For students in grades 9-11, points earned during the course of the 2015-2016 school may be rolled over into the following school year for use against next year’s trip, fees, or other expenses. More info regarding this final product fundraiser to be released in the coming days.
UIL Solo & Ensemble Contest:
Final registration numbers have been compiled and we have set another CHS Choir record! This year we will have over 50 soloists and 38 ensemble members participate in the Region VII UIL Solo & Ensemble Contest. With just under a month left to prepare, students participating in this process should be spending regular time each day with their music, working to secure not only pitch and rhythm but also the wide variety of music detail buried within their music. For those students working outside of our Music Enrichment system to prepare solos for this contest a schedule for tutorials and support will be posted tomorrow morning on the choir room door. Please select the time that best works for you and your schedule as you prepare for this contest.
Any unpaid contest entry/accompanist fees should be submitted upon your return to school on Monday. Any student/family needing to make alternative arrangements for the payment of these fees should contact Mr. Cooley ASAP.
In efforts to support increased academic performance across our campus and within our department, we frequently review and consult with students in the CHS Choir program regarding their grades and ways we may support them in their studies. After progress report grades were posted last week, it became clear that we have work to do within our department to ensure that the quality of our academic work matches the quality with which we work and perform in our choral rehearsals. Parents, your support and partnership in critical to this effort. If there are other ways in which I can be of assistance to you or your student during this time, please do not hesitate to let me know.
Thank you again for your support of the CHS Choral Department and your students engagement in fine arts education in Burleson ISD. It is truly a privilege and an honor to serve your students and support their growth as young people though music and song.
Have a great evening,
