Choir Update - [Recitals, Solos, Auditions, Uniforms]

Good Afternoon Students and Family Members,
Here we are… four weeks into the final grading period. It seems like only yesterday, we were just preparing for our Winter Concert. That being said, there are a lot of exciting things happening in the Choir Room for all of our students. Please take a moment to review the information below to ensure that you are up to date on events related to your student’s involvement.

Spring Voice Recitals:
9th & 10th Grade Recital (Black Box @ 6:00pm); 11th & 12th Grade Recital (Black Box @ 7:00PM)
Tomorrow night students enrolled in the Music Enrichment Program will present their final recital of the school year. This recital will feature selections from the Broadway stage and other popular music genres of the 20th century. This year’s spring recital will take place in the Black Box (next to the choir room). Call times for students is approximately 20 minutes prior to their assigned recital start time. Student warm-ups will take place in the choir room. We hope that you will join us for a wonderful evening of music making and celebration. 

Show Choir Auditions:
Tuesday, May 10th (Training Session); Thursday, May 12th (Audition) - CHS Choir Room
Auditions for the 2016-2017 Shades of Blue (Show Choir) performance ensemble will take this week on Thursday, May 12th beginning at 4:30PM. A choreography training and audition information session is scheduled for Tuesday, May 10th at the same time. All-students interested in audition for next year’s group should attend this training session. During this time, students will learn choreography for the audition and review the requirements for the upcoming school year. 

Shades of Blue is open to all CHS Choir Members, 9-12th grade, and is a great way to build confidence as well as mastery of both musical and performance skills. In addition to their dance audition, students will need to prepare an accompanied musical selection (upbeat, fast musical theatre, jazz, pop song) approximately 1 minute in length. Interested students should review the attachments for more information. 

​Spring Banquet: Enchantment Under the Sea
Saturday, May 21st in the Centennial High School Cafeteria
Tickets: $25 each (A maximum of 2 tickets may be purchased per student)
Banquet ticket sales continue this week. Don’t delay in securing your seat for this wonderful experience celebrating all of our students! Parent volunteers will be on hand Wednesday during all lunches to assist students with transferring funds and settling their accounts. Students may use cash, checks, or fundraiser credits to off-set the cost of student tickets (transfer requests can be made via Charms). Tickets sales end at 4:15pm on Wednesday, May 18th. 

Spring Concert Solo Auditions 

This Friday, May 13th - Beginning at 4:30PM - CHS Choir Room
Solo Auditions for this year’s spring concert "One Night Only” will take place on Friday, May 13th. Auditions are open to soloists, duets, and small groups. Repertoire selected should be drawn from the wide array of music theatre literature and must be accompanied. Sheet music will be required of any student not playing for themselves, as our house band will perform with them on the concert. Sign-Ups will begin tomorrow during all classes.

Seniors and JV Choir Uniform Returns

Senior and all JV Choir Members should begin returning school assigned uniforms tomorrow. This will allow for timely check-in of all uniform items and clearing of student accounts prior to our spring concert. Uniforms should returned in their garment bags. Signs will be posted in the choir room indicating where garments should be stored. Deadline for uniform returns is Friday, May 13th. Students with missing items will not receive their banquet ticket until all assigned items have either been returned or accounted for financially.

Preparation for this year’s show are going well. We look forward to sharing our student’s hard work and enthusiasm in the near future. Best wishes to each of you that are taking AP exams this week. Study hard and sleep well.

JV Festival Information

Good Evening Students and Parents, 

This email is a reminder about upcoming festival performances for both the Bel Canto and Concert Women's Choirs, next Saturday, May 14th. 

Students will travel to Colleyville Heritage High School to compete against similar for titles of "Best in Class" and overall "Outstanding Performers." The students have worked hard this year and this festival is intended to provide them an additional opportunity to share their hard work and growth with the Greater DFW metroplex.

We will adhere to the following schedule for next weekend's festival performance: 
Students will meet at CHS at 12:00PM
Departure CHS for Colleyville-Heritage HS by 12:20PM
Concert Women Warm Up at 1:20PM, Performance at 1:40PM 
Bel Canto Women Warm Up at 2:00PM, Performance at 2:20PM 
Listen/Enjoy other group performances until 3:20PM 
Departure CHHS for ITZ Pizza & Entertainment (Euless, TX) 
Depart Main-Event for Centennial HS by 6:30PM
Student Pick-Up at Centennial HS at 7:15PM 

After our performance, we will travel to ITZ pizza and entertainment to celebrate our young people and their hard work during the course of the school year. 

Note: Students must be academically eligible to participate in the festival performance at CHHS.

Students may select from one of the following meal/entertainment options:

Option 1) Deluxe Food & Fun Package - All day, all you can eat pizza, pasta, salad, dessert buffet, soft drinks, 90 minutes of unlimited video games* & attractions plus an iT’Z Fun Card with 45 points for use in the arcade. $20 per guest. Attractions include laser tag, bowling, go-karts, and more....

Option 2) Basic Food & Fun Package – All day, all you can eat pizza, pasta, salad, dessert buffet, soft drinks plus an iT’Z Fun Card with 30 points & choice of 1 attraction. $14 per guest.

Option 3) Buffet/Soft Drink – Buffet/drink (no entertainment) $10 includes large drink.

Monies for the celebration portion of the evening are due no later than Thursday, May 12th. 

We look forward to a successful festival performance and a wonderful time with our choir family and friends as we wrap up our performance year. Please communicate any questions you may have regarding this event as soon as possible.

Good Afternoon Students and Family Members,
I hope this email finds each of you well and enjoying the lovely weather that we are experiencing today. IT is certainly a welcome change from this past week’s storm events. It is hard to believe the we are almost halfway through the final six weeks of the school year.  This week marks the beginning of AP Testing and the final round of EOC administrations for the school year. We wish each of you the best as you prepare and take your exams. Below are Just a few reminders about upcoming events and activities.

Spring Banquet: Enchantment Under the Sea
Save the Date! — Saturday, May 21st in the Centennial High School Cafeteria
Tickets: $25each (A maximum of 2 tickets may be purchased per student)
This year’s awards banquet and student celebration to remembers. All students are encouraged to attend this event and we enjoy a wonderful meal as we celebrate their achievements, distribute awards, announce officers, and recognize our seniors in on final hurrah before the year comes to a close. Students may use fundraiser credits to off-set the cost of student tickets (transfer requests can be made via Charms). All student fees must be cleared prior to purchasing a banquet ticket. Cash or check payments for tickets may be made in the CHS Choir Room.

JV Choir Festival Performance
Saturday, May 14th - 12:00-7:00PM (Colleyville-Heritage High School - Grapevine, TX)
On Saturday, May 14th, the Bel Canto and Concert Women’s Choirs will be traveling to Colleyville Heritage High School to compete in the Spring in the Park Music festival. This competition is a group event in which all eligible members are expected to participate. Students will be performing selections from their UIL concert performance for this contest. A schedule of events has been included for your review. Parents are invited and encouraged to join us for the performance portion of this event. We will be traveling to a local venue for food and celebration following our group’s performances.
 
Chamber Auditions:
Thursday, May 19th - 4:30PM (CHS Choir Room)
Auditions for the 2016-2017 Chamber Singers will take place on Thursday, May 19th beginning at 4:30PM. This audition is open to all students in choir next year with at least one year of singing experience at CHS. This audition is conducted in large and small group formats and will involve vocalization, sight-reading, and team building activities. Don’t miss you chance to be a part of this premier performance ensemble. Look for more information regarding audition details later this week.

Scholarship & Officer Applications are due to Mr. Cooley this week. please make sure that all necessary forms have been filled out and submitted by the requested date. Late applications will not be accepted. Officer applications are due on Thursday, May 5th Scholarship applications are due on Friday, May 6th.
