Choir Announcements & Program Updates

CHS Choir Update - Week 14

11/30/2014

Good Evening Choir Students and Family Members,

I hope this email finds you well and rested after a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. It is hard to believe that the end of the first semester is nearly upon us.

Thanksgiving Feast was a huge success. It was so great to see so many students gathered together to share a meal with one another. Thank you for supporting this wonderful experience for the students with donations of your time, energy and donations of food.

Last Saturday, twelve CHS choir members participated in the Third Round of The Texas All-State Choir Auditions. Of the twelve, three were selected for advancement to the final phase of auditions in Midland, TX on January 10th, 2015. Of these twelve, four were also named alternates to the final round.

Each of the students that auditioned this weekend were models of the values of the CHS Choral Department through both their performance and their person. I could not be more thankful or appreciative of the opportunity to work with students who are willing to commit such an intense amount of time and energy to become better people and musicians. Thank you and congratulations to you all!

Advancing to the Area Auditions:
Jesse Warren - Bass II (1st Chair)
Caleb Jones - Tenor II (1st Chair)
Davis Dunn - Tenor II (1st Chair)

Alternates to Area:
Alyssa Neeley - Sop I
Emily Bennett - Alto I
Matthew Chitwood - Ten II
Jonny Espinoza - Bass II

This year’s holiday concert series will feature a new addition. Presented by the Chamber Singers, “A Feast of Carols” is an evening performance (December 13th) featuring holiday favorites sung by both soloists and the choir. Tickets for this event are only $10 each and are now available online via www.tinyurl.com/feastofcarols. This performance will also feature Shades of Blue and Harmony from Kerr MS. All seating for this catered event, that’s right food is being served, is reserved. Only 150 seats remain. Get your tickets today.

Finally, with the end of the first semester in sight, please make sure that you are doing everything you can to ensure that you are meeting teacher expectations in all classes. While we typically experience fairly high eligibility rates within our program, this is a five-week grading period and it is more than half way over. Progress report grades will be pulled this coming Friday. Any student ineligible as a result of their work during the past six weeks must secure at least a 70% or higher in all of their classes in order to regain eligibility status (65% in Pre-AP/AP classes). Failure to do so will prevent students from being able to participate in the Feast of Carols (Dec. 13th) and may impact their ability to participate in our UIL Competition Choirs and our upcoming trip to Chicago. Your attention to any areas of concern is greatly appreciated. Please let me know if I can be of any assistance in helping you or you student in any way.

Thank you for your time. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Eric Cooley, director
CHS Choral Department
