Choir Announcements & Program Updates
Last May, the CHS Spartan Chorale was invited by the UTA A Cappella Choir to join them as featured performers on their Fall Concert. This invitation came on the heels of a series of top-notch performances by all of our students and was one that we graciously accepted. We will be joined by other choral ensembles from Haltom High School (Birdville ISD) and Coppell High School in a collage concert that features outstanding work by musicians in our area at the secondary and post-secondary levels.
Under the direction of Dr. Karen-Kenaston French, the UTA A Cappella Choir has soared to new heights, most recently featured at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention (San Antonio, TX) and the National ACDA Convention in Salt Lake City, UT as Invited Performing and Demonstration Choirs. A full bio of the director and the UTA A Cappella Choir can be found here: http://music.uta.edu/facultystaff/facultydesc.php?facultyid=441
The concert will be on Tuesday, October 6th at 7:30PM in Irons Recital Hall on the UT Arlington Campus. Students will be taken by bus from CHS at 2:30PM to travel to the concert site, participate in a campus tour and rehearse in the venue. Doors will open approximately 30-45 minutes in advance of performance. In order to ensure that each school has the opportunity to share this experience with their families and supporters from home, we have been given an allotment of tickets to help with seating and audience apportionment for the constituents of the groups in attendance. Our current allotment of tickets is 28.
Sign-Ups for tickets will be handled through the google form link below. Families may request up to two tickets through 4:15PM on Friday October 2nd. At this time, any unclaimed tickets will be made available to any CHS Parent that desires to attend. While a ticket is not required to attend the concert, UTA staff cannot guarantee availability without one.

Good Afternoon Choir Parents and Students,
I hope this email finds you well and enjoying the lovely weather this weekend has brought us. It is hard to believe that the first grading period has already come to an end. Thank you for speaking with your students and encouraging them to stay on top of their academic course work and to do their best in all of their endeavors. Grades will post of Tuesday at 8:00AM with Eligibility Rosters for Fine Arts and Athletics posting the following day. Please look to your email for student grade reports later this week.
Our first concert is fast approaching and the students are coming along nicely in their preparations for this event. We look forward to a musical experience that will not only demonstrate the hard work and growth experience by our singers these first few weeks of school but will also speak to our audience as they join us for an evening of celebration and song. Joining us for this year’s event will be the Varsity Men’s and Women’s Choirs from Kerr MS. We look forward to welcoming them to Centennial as we combine forces and share in the joy music making.
Choir Fees and Forms
Despite the fantastic turn out we had at this year’s “Get Fit Day,” we are still missing forms (and fees/fee contracts) from a number of our students. These forms and fees are required of each student to fully participate in activities throughout the school year. If you have not yet completed these forms, please download them from CHARMS or the Choir Web Page (http://www.centennialhschoir.com/forms.html) and submit them prior to Thursday, October 1st. Those families/students in need of alternative payment arrangements should contact Mr. Cooley to discuss this need and how you might best work together to address your particular circumstance. Please do not delay, contact Mr. Cooley ASAP if you have any questions or concerns.
All-State Sectionals have been revamped this week to assist students with more detailed preparation of their competition literature. Please review the google calendar and the agenda below for more information. Sing-offs for Round II will be Thursday, October 8th. Auditions for Round II will be on Saturday, October 10th at Southwest HS (All-Day). This round includes literature performance and individual sight-reading.
Cherrydale Candy Bar Fundraiser:
This Wednesday, students will be given the opportunity to participate in our first direct sale fundraiser for the 2015-2016 school year. Through the sale of Cherrydale Candy Bars ($1 each) students will have the opportunity to defray the cost of their activity fees, off-set trip payments, and/or earn credits toward a free Spring Banquet Ticket.
For each box sold ($48 value), students will receive credits worth approximately $17.00 for use against any outstanding balances for the current school year (a benefit of 70% of the proceeds from each sale). Students wishing to sell more than one box may check one out once the funds from the sale of the initial box has been returned. This sale will officially begin on Wednesday, September 30th and conclude on October. 21st.
Students wishing to collect their first box on Wednesday, must complete and return the attached permission slip. Boxes will not be distributed to students without this signed permission slip and will only be distributed after school. Additional details regarding this fundraiser are described in the attachments and will be reviewed in class with each student on Wednesday. Please let me know if you have any questions regarding this sale.

CHS Choir Update - Week #5
Good Evening Choir Parents and Students
I hope this email finds you well and enjoying the slightly cooler weather today. We are off to a tremendous start this year. The students are working incredibly hard developing new skills, building relationships, and mastering challenging literature. Each of the choirs at CHS has experienced incredible growth since the first week of school. We cannot wait to share their progress with you at our Fall Concert on October 5th.
Dessert Social Tickets have been distributed to each of our students. Please speak with your student about the information distributed in class on Friday and/or the email distributed earlier today regarding this event. Dessert Social is a wonderful event that assists us with raising capital funds to support the distribution and expansion of student scholarships and other financial forms of support for the department. We hope that you will invite other to join us as we celebrate the start of a fantastic school year.
Uniform distribution will begin tomorrow. A list will be posted in the choir room tomorrow morning outlining the uniforms available for pick up and who is eligible to take them home.
